WattPades Content Policy
We are committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and enjoyable reading environment. The following standards apply to every novel featured on WattPades.
๐ซ What We Will Not Allow
The following categories of content are strictly prohibited on WattPades. Any submission found to contain these elements will be rejected and removed immediately.
- Content involving minors. Any sexual, romantic, or exploitative depiction of anyone under 18 โ including underage relationships, student/teacher dynamics, or any form of child sexual suggestion.
- Non-consensual or abusive content. Detailed depictions of rape, forced intimacy, sexual assault, sexual coercion, or sexual violence. Stories that glorify or romanticize these acts are also prohibited.
- Incest or bestiality. Sexual or romantic content between blood relatives, family members, or between humans and animals.
- Real-world violence and self-harm. Glorification or instructional content related to real violence, terrorism, mass harm, suicide, or self-harm. Fictional villainy within a clear good-vs-evil narrative is permitted.
- Hate speech and discrimination. Content that promotes racism, ethnic hatred, religious persecution, or discrimination against any group based on identity.
- Explicit or "edge" sexual content (H / ๆฆ่พน). No explicit sex scenes, graphic physical description, erotic web-novel content, or near-explicit "edge" writing of any kind. Passion is rendered through tension, longing, and suggestion โ never through graphic detail. All featured stories are sweet-to-moderate heat only.
- Extreme violence and gore. Beyond the general violence rule above, we prohibit graphic torture, mutilation, gore-for-shock, and sadistic detail in any setting โ including fantasy, paranormal, and dark-romance titles. "Dark" moods are welcome; dark spectacle is not.
- Harem and multi-partner romance structures. Stories built around a protagonist collecting multiple romantic or sexual partners โ harem, reverse-harem, polygamous, or concubine dynamics โ are not accepted. Every WattPades romance centers on one committed couple; love triangles are permitted only as temporary dramatic tension that resolves into a single pairing.
- Underage romance framing. All romantic and sexual dynamics must involve adults only. If a story references a high-school-age relationship, it may only appear as an innocent, non-sexual flashback framed from the adult characters' present-day reunion โ never as an active romance between minors.
โ What We Encourage
- Consensual, healthy, and empowering romance โ including slow-burn, enemies-to-lovers, fake-dating, and second-chance tropes.
- Strong, complex female protagonists and respectful male leads.
- Diverse representation across cultures, identities, and life experiences.
- Emotional depth, character growth, and meaningful conflict resolution.
- Clear, tasteful heat levels. Romance may burn โ it must never cross into explicit or "edge" territory.
- Every relationship on WattPades is between adults, and every romance resolves around one committed couple.
๐ก How We Enforce
Pre-publication review
Every novel and chapter is screened twice before it appears on WattPades: once by automated keyword filtering for the banned categories above, then by a human editorial review.
Reader reporting
Readers can flag any content that they believe violates these guidelines via the "Report" button on every chapter.
Prompt action
Flagged content is reviewed within 24 hours. Confirmed violations are removed, and the author's account may be suspended.
